Engenhoca's Trail

The route of the trail that leads to Praia da Engenhoca has changed a lot in recent decades. Initially, you would go by car along the road that ends at Praia do Jeribucaçú, stop halfway and walk down to Praia da Engenhoca. After they closed the gate, it was still possible to go down on foot. After prohibiting access through this entrance, another one was made available, where it was possible to leave the car in the parking lot and walk to Engenhoca, first passing by Praia do Hawaizinho and then following the final part of the trail, which is the same as it is today, but it was not always like this.
During the early 2000s, a millionaire investment transformed Engenhoca's trail once again: The Warapuru Project became the first 6 Star Resort in Brazil. The tropical extravaganza, however, was a popular and critical success. As soon as the project was launched in 2004, with opening scheduled for 2007, The New York Times magazine described Warapuru as "Brazil's most exclusive refuge" and the prestigious Wallpaper magazine called it a "James Bond-style hideaway". .

The 17 villas, of different sizes and starting at US$ 1.2 million, were all sold shortly after launch. The majority of buyers, made up of foreign businessmen and rich people from the financial market, still don't know when they will be able to spend their holidays there. Launched with pomp and fuss, the Warapuru Resort today suffers from harsh anonymity and an uncertain future. Outside the south of Bahia, little is heard about the project.
During this period, the development closed the parking lot and direct access to Praia do Hawaizinho, but built the entrance to the current Trilha da Engenhoca up to the fork that leads to Praia do Hawaizinho. When the development was being built, the trail was along the coast, which made the old trail longer but with beautiful views. With the failure of the venture and the abandonment of the work, the part of the coast became impassable and the population returned to the old trail for common use by the population.
The walk takes about 20 to 30 minutes along the Burundanga River and leads to the beaches of Engenhoca and Hawaizinho. It is also along this trail that the 4 Praias tour begins. (Engenhoca, Hawaizinho, Camboinhas and Itacarezinho).
